HIM VIDEO

FROM THE  FUNERAL OF HEARTS TO  THE "SHORT MOVIES" FOR VENUS DOOM: STEFAN LINDFORS AND HIM

Who made all this possible?

I’m sitting on my couch; it’s a cold winter’s day of 2003 and I’m trying to get rid of my cold feet, I can’t put them into the oven so I stay here on my couch, I read a book and occasionally put an eye on the TV screen.
All I can see from the window is cold…not a bird, not a flower, not a single piece of grass that’s not shaking because it’s cold.
It was a weird period the winter of 2003, just turned 29 and had the same old same old, but it was weird, HIM were not playing into my stereo, I was into the deep stop sometimes I need to rest.
But something’s gonna happen, something that will shot high the temperature and wake me up from that stop.
The Funeral of Hearts started to be aired on TV, I really and sincerely don’t remember which channel was it, I already got rid of my MTV dependence since they started to air Rap and Hip Hop, something I deeply don’t like, then it could have been everywhere.
Not a sign, just an eye on the screen and I recognized them, the style of the song of course, and then other snow, the breath becoming solid, then Mikko playing the guitar, Ville singing..
After i stopped staring breathless and speechless at the screen just a thought came into my mind…”Who made all this possible?”.
Because everyone must admit that The Funeral of Hearts is one of the best, I’d say THE best HIM video.
And not just because the song is wonderful and the guys are in perfect shape, but because it’s different, it has a good quality and above all a good story inside the story.
Stefan Lindfors made all this possible.
Perhaps because Stefan Lindfors is not just a director, he’s a genius.
“Stefan Lindfors; Interior architect, Designer and Sculptor, was born in the city of Mariehamn, Finland, May 3, 1962.”
This is what a little biography of him says, but it’s not enough to show how great is his mind and his creativity.
“He has designed interiors for shops, restaurants and corporate headquarters.”
Rewarded with several prizes and acclamations since 1988 with the introduction during a furniture convention in Milan of his first work, a lamp called “Scaragoo”, his long career has seen him creating several kind of things, from pieces of furniture to pictures shots to videos and, this last year, water bottles.
The relationship between Lindfors and HIM talks about videos in fact.
The funeral of hearts, HIM’s masterpiece taken from the fourth studio album “Love Metal” received music magazine Kerrang!’s award for "Best Music Video 2004".
Old Depeche Mode fans will of course remember who Anton Corbjin is.
A great artist who decided to collaborate with a band creating not just famous videos but even choreographies for their concerts, screenplays and artworks for their dvds.
In small amount this is what Stefan Lindfors has done and he’s doing for HIM.
During the last summer tour in the United States he created a series of ten short movies, using as soundtrack one of the most wonderful songs of HIM from the last work Venus Doom, Sleepwalking past hope, mixing images taken from the concerts with recalls of imaginary characters who remember the weird and interesting people in The funeral of hearts video: a woman painted with gold, mountains, sand, a guy with a chicken head and abstract things like those, everything that made great the experience of viewing them .
Last two HIM videos haven’t been directed by Stefan Lindfors, but I think I’m not the only one HIM fan to hope he will come back after the shooting camera to direct one of the following we hope will be taken from the next album we all are waiting for.
Ville said they’re trying to make the best album ever.
So why not to take the best director ever?
At least the video could talk about a Plup bottle, with Death and Life on the beach listening to a new HIM song as they are used to do.
Never forgetting it’s not shaped into Ville’s thumb…don’t try this at home, it’s dangerous!
