FOCUS ON…MIKKO VILJIAMI LINDSTRÖM, LINDE

” I am very proud of Linde, he is a great guy. He is a man of few words, but of many facets.”: this is the remark that Ville issued about the guitar player of his band in a interview from 2007.
Yet Mikko Viljiami Lindström speaks and he always does it with what really allows him to express his true self: his faithful Gibson SG, able to take out feelings, emotions, everything that music can message when it’s coming out from the vibrations of the guitar’s strings.
The words that Linde says are few ,essential, the ones of a shy and discreet Finn who certain doesn’t like to reveal the whole himself : yet from the interview he issued , during the years, a shy person comes out, but careful and sensitive, certainly a precious and indispensable element for the band.
Try to imagine HIM with a different guitar player or, to be more exact, with two guitarists, the first one with a backing guitar and the other one with a rhythmic guitar, as on the other hand it happens in every other bands . The result would not be the same anymore and HIM would never be the band we do know: because the great work made by Linde is to merge these two methods to play the instrument ,that in his hands has an incredible versatility.
And in those solos , in the riffs we find so much Steve Vai, John Lee Hooker and the blues, Toni Iommi and Slash, those who have been his idols and his ideal “teachers”; the performance has become faster and more expert and also the rhythm of the songs we love are reinvented and they are able to give every time new emotions.
Who between us can forget the wonderful intro of “Join me” or the solo of “Poison Girl” in the last Venus Doom tour? And how to forget Linde’s guitar in “When Love And Death Embrace” during Helldone 2008? And then “Wicked Game”, “Rebel Yell”… it would be too much to really mention them all; in every HIM song that Gibson underlines, reinvents, produces riffs and airs , and it ends involving everyone. And Linde is certainly not a cold and clinical performer : his walking around on stage has become a way to “play” the show we know so well , and his “physically” playing too, with all of himself, with his facial mime, now contracted and then totally intent and concentrated on music, with his long dreads that contribute to make a remarkable scenic impact .
The experience with HIM is not the only one because Linde on 2001, during the recording of “Deep Shadows And Brilliant Highlights “, decides to give life to his side project where he can express more freely his artistic mood. So “Daniel Lioneye and The Rollers” was born, in which Ville Valo has his part too, in the unusual play of a drummer, and Migè Amour plays the bass, assisted by the same Linde who, besides playing guitar is the vocalist too. To complete the band a great friend, Hiili Hiilesmaa, singer of The Skreepers and producer of Greatest Lovesongs vol.666 and Love Metal and co-producer with Tim Palmer of Venus Doom , and some member of other Finnish bands.
Just one album is the product of this extraordinary band: “The King of Rock’n Roll”, nine traces all together where we have the surprise to listen Linde singing with an Elvis Presley’s voice that leaves us nicely amazed.
The whole record brings us back to rocking atmospheres , the sounds are rough and dirty , but this is just the result that it’s wanted: a music releasing itself as pure energy, through distortions and particular sound effects , an “uncontrolled” sound , as the same Lindström says.
“The King Of Rock’n Roll” it’s the most famous song of the whole album, thanks to the choice of Bam Margera to use it as ending credits of his lucky TV program “Viva la Bam” and has been the Finnish song mostly played in the World on 2006 right after the Sibelius violin concerts.
The album remains yet an only child at least until the spring of 2008, when Linde announces the will to release again something with Daniel Lioneye project with a new album, that is nearly to come and we are impatiently waiting .
We know the band has changed some members and the musical style will be different from the previous one, because Linde will sing with a “black metal” voice and this certainly contributes to increase our curiosity.
All we have to do is waiting now and, being the Daniel Lioneye Official Street Team, through some fliers given out in towns, different places and occasions , we try to give our contribute as supporter to the our favorite guitar player!

HIM NIGHT RETURNS ON EURO ROCK RADIO

It ’s always a special night when HIM Night is on air, because it’s never a surprise but at the same time it’s always different and surprising.
Householder, as always, CelticAngel, mostly known as Kelly, a very professional and indeed lovable interviewer who’s able to lead it all even in the most strange and difficult moments; special guest even this time is Ville Valo.
A Ville definitely more awake and active than the other one who answered the phone during the HIM Night on air in the occasion of the Heartagram Day in February , during which he called directly from his house in Helsinki at 4 AM, but on the other hand much less revealer than the last time, in which he revealed the title of the strongly awaited new album together with the name of the producer and many other little hints regarding the next work that’s about to come out.
The interview has been pre recorded by CelticAngel just before the beginning of the usual musical show; the guys are recording their parts that afterwards will be mixed to obtain the album and it’s not possible for Ville to reach out the interviewer by phone at the time the show will be usually aired.
Not too bad, Kelly is anyway giving us the opportunity once again to hear Ville recounting something about the long path that is leading the band to the creation of their seventh studio album and above all she allows us to send in some questions that will be asked to the frontman and will be read dirung the interview.
It’s the usual and tested praxis, the chat lined to the site is full of known people, friends, Team Leaders, adventure companions on the official board and people who run sites and boards all over the world, for a day, or a night that might be, we’re all friends and we listen, participate and share an important and particular moment.
Songs are followed by songs, spaced out by Kelly’s voice who, after half an hour from the beginning of the first show (there will be two shows) announces that finally the interview has been edited and then we can easily listen to it even if listening to that voice and above all waiting for the questions to be answered is always a hit to the heart.
Ville appears a bit tired, a sensation that’s confirmed by his own words that reveal him a little stressed too, the production of a new album is always a monumental work, and we all well know how the guys work, then this feeling is perfectly normal but it doesn’t deny him to be with us anyway, even if he looks a bit grippy.
And as always the interview goes on between Kelly’s questions and the long, too long sometimes, answers by Ville who belabors on everything, as he has the need to explain everything precisely and give his opinion on every question that’s asked, to underline his point of view that in the end appears clear; he reveals not so much about the new album, no song title and no demos for now to show us or give a little hint about what’s gonna be like the next work, so much awaited and already a bit criticized by someone, most of all for the producer choice.
What would he take with him on a desert island, what’s his perfect day, the three things to do on a tourbus; funny questions for an hour and ten minutes of an interview that reveals in the back his thoughts on the thousand faces of everyday life of a rockstar that’s always less behaving like a rockstar, expensive hotels or not, but like a friend you can give a call, to hear how is him and what’s up.
Some of us joined both shows, passing another night awake with the earphones on, in front of the computer screen to kill time between one show and the other chatting with friends and adventure’s companions.
Because this is really an adventure, the wonderful adventure to feel like a family and all together sitting by the virtual fire that comes out from the heartagram to listen the great chief telling one of his wonderful stories, the ones who leave us astonished and make us weep more and more because one year is long to wait and without gigs sometimes it’s like you cannot breathe anymore.
Thanks to Kelly for the huge work, for her sympathy and her laughters that sometimes resound in the streaming, and thanks to Ville for his mateship mood again.
